She didn't start the sultanate of women. She was the first to be titled as Valide sultan and to be respected as the mother of the Sultan and also have authority over the Haramlek. However Sultanate of women means the interference of women in ruling the country and that didn't happen before Hürrem sultan. Sultanate of women means to interfere either indirectly or directly. it started with Hürrem indirectly where they say she was able to convince the sultan to take specific decisions regarding the family and the country but in subtle way. After sultan Sülyman, the following sultans started to be weaker and weaker and women started getting more power and authority like in Nurbano, Safiye and Kössem eras. Kössem reached the ultimate power of women in the sultanate of women as she succeeded to be the Deputy of the Sultanate during Sultan Murad's era and also during her grandson's era. She was able to rule directly without having to convince or manipulate any man into obeying her or listening to her opinion. Does that mean she is better than any of her predecessors ? Simply no cause what she had would have never been possible without the efforts of them and due to the different circumstances they had. for example, back at Hürrem's era it was impossible to become a free woman and to also get married to Sülyman but she succeeded. At Kössem's era it was already done once, so why not twice?! understood?
