I'm an assistant manager at a retail store, we have two registers, and one is always open for the cashier. we have a basket with a sign that says lane closed on one register, the amount of people that think I'm open when I'm doing paper work is insane.

I work somewhere where both registers are visible at all times in the lobby. there are times when someone comes in, im standing at one register, im the only person working at the time, and they still go to the other register

we have two registers and two self checkouts. i LOVE when people walk past me to the closed self checkout. i love even more when they walk past me, the closed self checkouts, and then to the register nobody’s standing at and then see the box we wrote “next register please!” on.

I deal with this a lot. It mostly happens with a coworker of mine who doesn't put up a close sign whenever they walk away from the register. So I have to tell people to come down to mine or I basically run both registers

Drives me nuts when there are 2 registers open a cashier at both. The store is not busy but 1 cashier will be doing a task the other just standing there waiting for a customer. And the customer will walk up to the busy cashier every time 🤦♀️

Or at checkout lanes we have 3 that have the light up numbers to show you which one is open they always go to the ones not lit up even when you can clearly see the cashier at the correct counter

my favorite is when a customer walks up to the register closest to the door (with items not just trying to pay for gas/lotto) that has two closed signs and all black screens that you can see as you walk up bc the back faces the store slightly when the cashier is actively standing next to the register by the hot case (opposite end of the counter, also right next to all the other most frequently asked for behind the counter items) and wants food from said hot case too

and 10 times out of 10 the other register has a LANE CLOSED sign on it too. I just let them stand there until they come over to my register, I don't even say anything

I used to work at taco bell. we had two registers but for whatever reason one was never used and had just become like our hub. people would stand in front of it while i took their order, then get mad at my manger while he worked on stuff but his card reader wouldn't take their card. like bud, LOOK AT WHICH REGISTER I'M IN FRONT OF??!!?

what I deal with is people want me to wait on them but yet they don't want to put their stuff where I can reach it so I have to use the scanner to zap it across the counter and half the time that doesn't even work and then they're like oh can I get a bag so I handle my empty bag and go sorry can't reach the stuff
