My wife and I used to say, "We know, what we know, when we know it." We used this whenever either one of us might feel condemnation for choices that we made, either in the present or in the past. It's easier to extend grace and kindness to others when one extends those things to themselves.

This is self awareness. Giving people grace for not knowing things you know by virtue of your background and privilege, not looking down on them for not knowing i.e. not having access to things you probably didn’t earn access to.

Not the point but the colorblind analogy just reminded me of a funny story. My two cousins, who are brothers, shared a house together a long time ago. They painted their living room and kitchen “white,” and when me n some other cousins went to go visit them, we had to break it to them that they, in fact, painted their walls baby pink.😆 They’re both aware they’re colorblind so idk why they didn’t ask others about the color they picked before painting, but we definitely had a god laugh.🤭
