If you are worried ask yourself is this transformative media? Like y’all remember the really popular draw this in your style trend where you’d draw a screenshot from a show in your style? A lot of artists sketched over the screenshots to get the basic placement of things and then transformed them into their own unique pieces of art! The tracing artfight is talking about is like when someone on DA would take an anime screenshot and draw over it 1 to 1 to make a new base

this is literally what I have been wanting to say but I havent known how to say it, thank you so much h for making it so much simpler for people to actually understand what the rule entails. I have seen people straight up say they are going to not join artfight over this when im pretty sure it was very clear that its geuninutely just a rule against straight up tracing your references??? your still allowed to use the photo bashing and 3d models and whatever you maybe using, but you cant straight up trace it, and several of the people talking against this rule were straight up just... tracing the models... im still gonna be participating in artfight but its a little dissapointimg that people are straight up or thinking of quiting due to a rule thats pretty easy to actually understand and has been around forever

is tracing blank poses okay? like I kinda just loosely trace the blank pose and then make adjustments to the pose depending on what I'm going for and then add all my details and stuff as I go

I don't trace usually, but sometimes I do and let's be for real, I can do whatever I want and nobody actually owns anything, should I credit the owner if I watch it at this point?

I think by this point the mod team would have benefitted more by having a graphic like this alongside the tracing rules 😭 The biggest issue with this debate over the new rules overall I think is definitely the fact that what people consider tracing and referencing varies greatly; I've seen several photos like this and lots of people still consider the bottom one, or shape/color-blocking as tracing 😭
