That's a good idea yes, but they see through it. The government knows that when cigarettes get expensive, people can just find alternatives or stop buying completely because not everyone uses it. Unlike electricity that everyone uses and is actually a necessity, and people will be forced to pay for it because living without it nowadays is such a big deal.

it is a good idea short term, hut kobg term it is not a solution. the govt knows sin tax is a major part of the income, if it gets raised higher than what is economically tolerable by its market, people will stop buying and find alternatives eventually, and when that happens, there will be less income because sin tax will not be generating as much. raising taxes is never the soln. proper allocation, liquidation, and stopping corruption are the way to go

natanong nato before sa subj namin e(taxation), and I think it's bc it affects lower sectors like sari sari stores and local shops bc of the price increase. and even if itaas siya, di mababawi mababawi ung revenue since consumers ng stuff na yan is below mid class. it would push for them to not buy it instead ba, so walang benefit🥲
