@britnisartain: Walking away from a team wasn’t part of the plan. Neither was watching an adult slowly chip away at my son’s confidence — not just in the game he loved, but in what he believed a teammate, mentor, and team should feel like. Baseball is supposed to teach kids resilience, respect, encouragement, and brotherhood. Grown adults forgot these are kids before they are players. We had to teach him that not every adult leads with kindness, not every teammate feels like family, and sometimes the people meant to build you up can tear you down instead. And that part will never sit right with me. There’s grief in walking away from something your child poured his heart into. There’s loneliness in choosing peace. There’s rejection in setting boundaries. There’s frustration in realizing protecting your child sometimes means standing alone. But there is also peace here. A quiet kind. The kind that comes when you stop forcing your child to survive spaces that were never nurturing him to begin with. I will never make him sit at table that slowly breaks his spirit just to belong. Experienced this at our game tonight. Score was difference of one in the last inning. Couple of the parents got super intense yelling negative shit at our pitcher and playing ump in the crowd. Completely lost my shit because at the end of the day yes we all want to win, but at what cost? Let the boys have fun. Adults should never be making literal children feel bad over a game.
