@web21104: A lot of people ask me, “What’s gonna happen to Brett one day? Do you have a contingency plan? Will he go into a home?” The answer is yes, I do have a plan… and no, Brett will never be put away and forgotten about. ❤️ This property, these houses, this land, and everything we’ve built has been designed around Brett and his needs. It’s Brett-proof. Angel-proof. Whoever steps up and takes care of Brett one day will get the property, the houses, the land… everything. Family takes care of family around here. Always have. Always will. 🙏 #AngelmanSyndrome #SpecialNeedsFamily #CaregiverLife #FamilyFirst #DisabilityAwareness

Just FYI from someone who has been in the field for 30yrs. Family as a backup plan never works.

I have a handicapped brother and I absolutely plan on taking care of my brother when my parents pass. Could never put him in a home!! We love him too much!

the shit we don't talk about :
don't talk about " putting them in a home" as if homes are bad places. I get it it's not the fit for your family but for many families it's a saving grace .

People can love him and simultaneously not want the responsibility of caring for him day to day. Huge difference

unfortunately life doesn't work out how you want it too. he's amazing but never put that type of pressure on your family. he may get to be too much from them to deal with. they have lives of their own too.

Never put pressure on siblings to watch their disabled sibling. It is not their responsibility. I love my sibling but 24/7 care I know I couldn’t do. If the sibling is wanting to and able too then all is good but please don’t guilt sibling to do so. Have a discussion with family and sort it out before something happens. Not easy and stressful but it’s important to organize ahead of time
