@another.marykate: So about the red or blue button problem… I’ve seen the argument of “if everyone chooses red no one dies” but that relies on everyone choosing one color over the other, and we all know that isn’t going to happen. For the red button to be “everyone lives” it has to be 100% of people voting red, for the blue button it only has to be 50%.. one of those is far more likely. “There are no risks to pressing red!” are you sure there’s no one in your life that you absolutely love that would be empathetic enough to press blue? At the end of the day it’s a hypothetical question. #bluebutton #redbutton
Originally I said red. Because I thought it was silly to over complicate it and figured “if you press blue you’re an idiot.”, but then I thought about what my little sisters would do. I have a 6 year old sister and a 8 year old sister and both of them would press blue because they’d figure they were helping others. And then I realized pressing red was indeed selfish.

"The more you think about it the more logical sense red makes" actually no. my first instinct was blue, the more I thought about it the more I realized blue is the ONLY choice.

I keep seeing the argument for red "well if everyone pressed red, then no one will die". what if everyone pressed blue?

Red is only the correct option if nobody presses Blue. The moment 1 person presses blue, which is inevitable, then blue becomes the correct option.

The real question is "if it came down to it, WOULD YOU pick blue?" When voting for anything, you HAVE to vote as if YOUR vote is the tiebreaker.

yes picking red would TECHNICALLY be more logical, but if you gave this question to a child they'd hear the words "save everyone" and pick blue without a second thought, because of that Id pick blue every time

"red saves me" from what? blue is the literally nothing happens button, you're creating the danger by pressing red

For the blue button pressers, I just wanna ask what your thoughts would be if only one person on the planet picked blue and literally everyone else picked red?

I saw the premise and immediately thought about my 5 year old me's favorite color was blue. a simple choice immediately.

Everyone says red is more "logical" what no? OK you can insure your own life but that's not nessarly logical, it takes more then one person for society to function, and if you can insure that everyone lives isn't that more logical

I've always been on the blue side. if I was the tiebreaker, I'd be saving people. it's what I would hope someone else would do if it were their choice too.

I'd rather die than live in a world of only red button pushers, no matter how many scared or afraid people pressed it. They still pressed it.

honestly theres no point. in reality everybody is too selfish and will end up picking red, this society is too imperfect for 4 billion people willing to risk their lives

I ran this thought experiment with my kindergarten class, except with cupcakes as the prize instead of survival. Overwhelming majority of these 5-year-olds voted for everyone to get cupcakes

so wild how people will say "it relies on 50% of everyone pressing blue for everyone to be safe!" and then in the same breath say "well, if everyone pushes red, everyone will be fine!" as if it's easier to assume 100% of people will push the button as opposed to 50%?

I was a red button person, until I saw this video of a 5-6 year old getting this question and clicking blue. I realized that everyone truly meant EVERYONE.

btw only 50% of people need to press the blue button for everyone to live 100% of people need to press red for everyone to live, blue is just a much more realistic question
