I’ve read “Animal Farm”. and recently finished “1984”. I think Orwell’s books are the kind everyone should read at least once in their life. If “Keep the Aspidistra Flying” is your favorite, then it must be really good too, I’ll definitely add it to my reading list!

In my opinion, Orwell was such a great writer, not because he only talked about the future but because he truly understood his present. He could see the hidden truths behind events and slogans then explain them in such a simple and clear way. That’s why his books still feel alive today, as if he’s living among us. It also shows that human nature and its core remain the same only the context of each era changes on the surface, along with the events and the different characters playing their roles.
+ Thanks for the recommendation.

I read “Why I Write” a few months ago, to further my understanding of Orwell’s writing and political stance for and upcoming university exam. It was a transformative read for me. Reading the four types of motivations he considered writers have, drastically changed how I perceive my own works and the purpose behind them. I may have to pick up “keep the aspidistra flying” this summer🙂↕️

I've always liked Orwell but I have not read Why I Write. Sounds very interesting, I'm adding it to my list. As someone with a degree in history and who unfortunately lives in the US, I'm curious to see if there are parallels to today, especially since his other works hold them as well. Thank you for the recommendation!

Down and out in London and Paris was such a refreshing break after 1984 and Animal farm. I really have to get a hand on Why I Write.

I love how his real name isn’t know so publicly. I recently just found out why he published his books using a pen name. For those who don’t know, he used a pen name when he published Down and Out in Paris and London (his first book) because he didn't want to embarass his family because he was homeless at the time. His real name is Eric Arthur Blair which is I find to be a very lovely name. I love his writing and he will forever be one of my go to’s when recommending a book to people
