@brit_hits_rewind: On 30 January 1969, The Beatles climbed onto the roof of their Apple Corps headquarters at 3 Savile Row and unknowingly played their final live performance together. At the time, the band was already falling apart behind the scenes during the difficult Get Back sessions, with arguments, exhaustion and even George Harrison briefly quitting the group earlier that month. But for 42 minutes, with keyboardist Billy Preston joining them, they suddenly felt like a real band again. Office workers leaned out of windows, people flooded the streets on their lunch breaks, and crowds climbed onto nearby rooftops trying to work out where the music was coming from. Eventually, the police arrived after complaints from local businesses about the noise and traffic, with Apple staff initially refusing to let officers onto the roof. The concert ended with “Get Back”, before John Lennon delivered the legendary line: “I’d like to say thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we’ve passed the audition.” Less than a year later, the Beatles officially broke up, turning one cold afternoon on a London rooftop into one of the most emotional endings in music history. #thebeatles #factsyoudidntknow #oldiesbutgoodies #nostalgiacore #crazyfacts
