We used to say there was no bus right now, let’s go home later. It worked too.

Agree with this advice. It can be quite frustrating for us to hear the repetition, but imagine how the Dementia patient feels. Subhan Allah

easier said than done.. when its said to you over and over every morning and every night as a carer for my dad he constantly says this, ive tried diversion and he just doesnt stop 💔 ive tried diversion so many times and he just comes back to the same question .. you run out of ideas, tactics abd patience sometimes and then u feel guilty because you cant do anything its awful for all

I work with people with dementia and what I usually say is something like "I will bring you home no problem, I just have a few jobs to do before we go so can you wait till I'm finished those? " Then I redirect them to an activity while they "wait". This almost always works.

As a carer I have been known to say(yeah I understand, I know it's difficult, if I could take you home I would but I can't sorry) then maybe ask a complete question regarding anything else that doesn't involve home

if someone asks me if I want a cup of tea or something to eat when I wanting to go home i will scream. I hear this all the time from carers, it doesn't work.

My mother is past this stage now but this was very hard. She was absolutely immovable. You couldn't distract her from wanting to go home, it was exhausting, upsetting and frustrating. Horrible horrible disease.

Good to ask tell me about your home and then start redirection
Service users? They are people, family members, loved ones not service users

When we had this situation we eventually took my MIL for a ride in the car as if she was going home. When we got back she was fine and able to be distracted with a cup of tea.
