When children in Northern Nigeria are sent out with no care, no supervision, no plan beyond survival, the side effects hit the child, the family, and the whole society. 1. Effects on the child - the human cost 1. Physical: Malnutrition, skin diseases, untreated injuries, exposure to weather. No medical care = small problems become permanent damage. 2. Mental/Emotional: Attachment trauma. A child who’s abandoned learns “I’m disposable.” That shows up later as anger, numbness, or deep insecurity. They stop trusting adults. 3. Educational: Qur’anic memorization without basic literacy = a mind trained to recite but not to question, analyze, or create. He becomes literate in Arabic script, but “illiterate” in the modern world. 4. Safety: High risk of abuse, exploitation, trafficking, drug use. Desperation removes the ability to say “no.” 2. Effects on society - the bill we all pay later 1. Street recruitment: Idle, hungry, uneducated boys are the first people bandits, drug dealers, and extremist groups recruit. Not because they’re evil. Because they were ignored first. 2. Crime & violence: “Desperation beats wisdom.” When survival is the only goal, theft, thuggery, drug peddling become logic, not choice. 3. Economic loss: Nigeria loses millions in potential. That boy could’ve been an electrician, coder, farmer. Instead he becomes a cost to police, hospitals, prisons. 4. Cycle repeats: Abandoned boys grow into fathers who don’t know how to parent. So they abandon again. The cycle is generational. 3. The spiritual/cultural wound The North prides itself on _tarbi_yya_ — upbringing, character, responsibility. But mass child abandonment breaks that. It creates a generation that knows Qur’an but not _adab*. Knows how to beg but not how to build. That’s a crisis of identity. Bottom line: Abandonment doesn’t just create poor children. It creates broken adults. And broken adults build broken nations.#majestic0013 #fyp #foryoupage #pensivesociety
