@dr.chrissymd: Before anyone says “but doctors make so much money” — this is residency. Last year as a junior orthopaedic surgery resident taking call at a Level 1 trauma centre, my pay worked out to under $10/hour net. Meanwhile minimum wage in Quebec is $16.60/hour. All while covering overnight call, operating, managing consults, and caring for critically ill patients. And this isn’t one week. This is years of training. Curious what people think — should resident doctors be paid below minimum wage during residency training? 👀 #doctor #residency #medicine #figsambassador #fyp
There needs to be restructuring for residency, pretty sure this would help with physician burnout and better care knowing their time and effort is being compensated well and not under minimum wage especially with all the responsibility they’re taking on

Craigular joe :
Residents should be paid a reasonable wage. Minus the liability, they still bring expertise. No one can question why certified doctors in Canada make 440k-2 million when this is how they were treated during training. Are we offering residents unlimited psychological support? We should.
