@therapytothepoint: 4 Ways to Become Emotionally Secure Having emotional security doesn’t mean you never feel anxious or uncomfortable. It means knowing you can experience those feelings without running from them or falling apart because of them. #feelyourfeelings #stoicism #emotionalsecurity #emotionallysecure #emotionalhealth

4 ways to become emotionally secure - 1. Accept the possibility of suffering, one of the biggest causes of chronic anxiety is the belief that we must prevent ourselves from even feeling emotional pain, discomfort is apart of life 2. Learn the difference between influence and control, a lot of suffering comes from trying to control the unctrollable, control means guaranteeing outcome, influence means increasing the likelihood of an outcome, emotionally secure people stop measuring their worth only by outcome but by paying attention to whether they handled the situation in alignment with the person they want to be 3. learn to sit with uncomfortable feelings, a lot unhealthy behaviours are actually attempts to escape emotion stop treating emotions like emergencies instead validate the emotion that comes up, 4. turn demands into preference, the problem with demands is that they create rigid pressure around how life is supposed to go and if reality doesn't co operate your mental health suffers, you are still allowd to care deeply about something without demanding that life unfolds exactly the way you expect it to

It’s so much easier to do this as an older adult. It’s one of the good things about aging, being able to think your way through things and not be at the mercy of your thoughts, feelings, insecurities and anxieties. For me, adolescence was one of the hardest times of my life and where a lot of my trauma came from. It is not easy being a child or an adolescent!
