@blankfxiryyt: The mischaracterization of James Sunderland: The Question #silenthill2 #jamessunderland #silenthill2remake #deepdive #jamessunderlandedit
At the end of the game, all I wanted for that man was to move on.

I hate that we split people into two categories “good” and “evil”.humans are too complex to be able to fit into just two categories.

Unironically I understand why he did it, and why the town haunts him, but I also understand Mary and the way she guilt trips him.

It’s crazy how most people don’t understand this too 😭 like NO u cannot call him “good” or “evil” because he doesn’t FIT in any of those categories… people forget that there’s always a grey area to think about.

Hes so human. Cuz, lets be honest: just very few ppl in the world are pure evil or pure goodness; most of us are in the gray zone, yeah, more tilted toward one side or the other one, but not %100 good or %100 bad. In fiction u can get these archetypes: the villian or the hero, cuz- I mean, its fiction, not reality; but irl, morality is more complex, thats why i love James and human written characters, cuz they represent in a realistic way the human being morality; obviously I enjoy the villian and the hero, but human characters will always be better

Something I think a lot of people are remiss about is what it’s like to be a caregiver, or even just witness someone you love dying. It’s truly something you can’t explain until it happens to you, which is why i find myself sympathizing with him more than most silent hill fans. Being a caregiver, on top of that being somebody you fell in love with and who’s supposed to be your whole world, takes an indescribable toll on you. It reduces you to the lowest and worst parts of you. I’m not defending what he did, it was despicable and horrific, but James decision certainly isn’t one that is exclusive to him

I know silent hill 2 is the most popular but I feel like the character who’s barely talked about is Alessa Gillespie, cause she is almost the Laura Palmer of silent hill even in silent hill 2 a game not tied to the order mythology, Alessa’s narrative shadow still remains

One thing is regardless the two most cannon ending (in water ending mostly) James proves his love for Mary in his final moments by driving into lake Toluca showcasing he can’t live without her nor forgive himself for what he did and constantly being in denial not just by his own actions but also by his love that he lost

Objectively it WAS a mercy kill. However his motivation wasn't to help her at all

the way he tries to grab that little girl and the absolutely violent way he interacts with the monsters tell me all I need to know hes an abusive man all too common, people want to make him more complex than he is becuase hes conventionally attractive.
