well that was a ride, a ride on an ark or a unicorn. also this reminded me of a campfire song i learned a long time ago about how there are no unicorns because while the flood was happening the unicorns were playing in the water and Noah was like "ah! get on the boat!" but no the unicorns were too busy playing lol. it absolutely threw me hearing it for the first time and i can't remember how it goes

What is the type of folk tale called where it's an "explanation," for why something happens? I remember as middle schooler having to mimic folk tales that explain why elephants have trunks, kangaroos hop, zebras have stripes. Usually has some form of moral in the end as well. Most of the folk tales were African tribal stories that my teacher used? They were some of my favorite stories. I never thought it was truly a Creation story because the animals were always on earth, but it was why they acted/do certain things?

This is why I always read the commentaries in the Tanakh, because you can find such wild extra stories! The commentaries also give good explanations for why Noah cursed Ham, just read Rashi!

One of my favorite tidbits from the original story is at the end, Noah asks God to never flood the earth again. So God made the rainbow as a sign of his promise to never flood the earth again. …of course, that just means he’s going to destroy the earth with raining fire instead.
