@dr.matthew.parker: What Psychiatry residency didn’t teach me was how much of becoming a therapist I’d have to pursue on my own. Many residencies tend to focus on a specific type of therapy as their speciality, or give you a general overview of a few different styles. It makes sense because there is so much to learn in residency that learning it all isn’t an option. To fine tune exactly what therapies I mesh with and what I didn’t, I had to do a substantial amount of research and training on my own, outside of residency and on my own time. What surprised you about your career? #MentalHealth #psychiatry #anxiety #depression #anxietyhelp
As a school psychologist I learned a lot about cognitive development, psychometrics, and education. We could also choose secondary tracks and I chose family therapy. I wish I had learned more about how to collaborate across systems, instead of just a narrow view of what can be done in school.

BeeLee :
How’d you choose between psychiatry, psychology, or neuroscience for your career? I’m trying to choose.
