I hate that everyone is so negative about it, no it’s not ideal but it saved my babies life

At my unit our FSEs don’t look like this. And looks more like a ‘clip’. Always show the woman one prior as the description sounds so much worse for a piece of equipment that can allow so much for a woman in labour.

Saves many babies lives if the external monitor doesn’t work by the way

I had this for my son, told it was a clip. Not sure I'd have agreed to it if I'd known it was like that!!

as a midwife, i would elect to have an FSE over abdo transducer 100000% (if i need a ctg at all)- i just KNOW i wont want to be constantly touched and overstimulated by the transducer needing to be moved constantly

I had one of these put on my son 11 weeks ago at the end of a 62 hour labour when both of us weren't coping, I didn't care what they did in order to keep us both safe, & now he's the happiest, healthiest little boy & I am SO grateful for all of the medical developments that helped us both make it out the other side! 💙

Most units don’t use this type, ours are much finer and smaller

I was offered this and it did not work as my daughter had too much hair. If I had known this i would have not agreed

my little boy had this... the only annoying bit of it was having the string thing hanging out and I was anxious about pulling it out when I needed a wee hahahaha 😆

I was offered this as my boy was tachycardic, obstetrician went to perform it and realised I was fully dilated and ready to push😂

If these are used, for failure to progress and low fatal heart rate, should it be recorded in maternity/labour notes?

I had it in my birth plans all three times I wanted an FSE. In my trust we use ‘STan’ so it’s not just for contact for us but also the fetal ecg

I'm so grateful these exist. My daughters heart rate kept dropping with contractions and I was so glad we could monitor how she was doing and it helped informed the midwives that she needed to be out asap! Pushed her out in less then 1/2 hr after that

my little girl had to have it, after being induced, she kept dropping of the CTG, more than happy for it to be done as we got a much better reading.
