Follow us rangeless_ for more travel 🚐💨 The first time we drove through Hanksville on our Utah road trip, we genuinely thought someone was joking when they told us there was a cave gas station in the middle of the desert. But then you pull up and suddenly there’s this tiny little town surrounded by Mars-looking landscapes, red rock cliffs, and one of the weirdest roadside stops we’ve ever seen. It feels SO old-school road trip Americana Inside the mountain is the actual convenience store, souvenirs, snacks, drinks, bathrooms, and a little escape from the desert heat. It’s become one of the most iconic stops in Southern Utah for people road tripping to Capitol Reef National Park, Goblin Valley State Park, Moab, Lake Powell, or Bryce Canyon. A few things to know before you go: ⛽️ It’s in Hanksville, Utah — a tiny desert town with VERY limited services nearby 🚐 Great stop for van life, RV life, road trips, and national park travel 🥤 Good place to stock up on drinks/snacks before heading deeper into the desert 📸 Definitely worth stopping even if you don’t need gas because it’s such a unique roadside attraction 🌡️ Summers get HOT, so carry extra water if you’re exploring nearby hikes 🏜️ The surrounding landscape looks like another planet we almost skipped stopping because from the road we thought it was just a normal gas station 😂 Then we noticed people literally walking INTO the rock and immediately turned in.
