Why do Psychiatrists sometimes disagree with patients? It’s one of the more awkward parts of being a Psychiatrist, when patients come to sessions with ideas of what they think they have, only to be told this likely isn’t the case. I get it—patients will often do their own research before our sessions, they will use Google, ChatGPT, see a TikTok reel, or even watch a TV show that shows a character that might exhibit many of the same symptoms they are experiencing. Getting a diagnosis right is important. I never want to be cavalier with a diagnosis for a patient and put them in a spot where they are potentially getting more significant medications or treatment than they might realistically need. The best treatment only comes from an accurate diagnosis, and getting this right is key. Have you ever been surprised by a diagnosis by your doctor? #MentalHealth #ocd #bipolar #adhd #psychiatry
