all of these hog mains in the comments 😭. you can a love a hero and acknowledge that the hero design is outdated/bad. hog has no in between. either he's hell to fight against or he absolutely blows. he needs a rework, a power shift to some other part of his kit. hook cooldown is so short that it's hard to avoid it, and it's also hard to use abilities to negate it. he himself can have poor positioning as long as there's no ana, because he can just heal is way out of there. i really didn't think this was going to be a hot take until i read the comments. hog is one of the heroes that has a rework confirmed (sombra, hog, & lw) and anyone who thinks he doesn't need one is biased 😅

What if hook’s cooldown was reduced, but he has to wind it up to get longer range? He would be vulnerable and more predictable with his hooks so it would be counterable, but a shorter cooldown would help the change not be a straight up nerf

I disagree. Hog is truly not that hard to play around. If anything reduce the hook range but the one shot is kinda all his simple kit could ever get to make him viable.

also hog can 1 shot without the hook if you get a headshot at the right distance with his right click which is between 5 and 14 meters

I think he needs a rework in general. There is no proper way to balance a one shot character. If you nerf it you take a huge part of their value away if you leave it then it’s no fun to play into. IMO he needs a rework on his concept. I’ll think about it a little more after I wake up completely.

Roadhog one trick here. A lot of this is misinformation. You can one shot 250 to 300 HP heroes without using left click, adding it is just unnecessary. There is a lot of counterplay, but some people do not use it to stop his hook. For example: Life Grip, boop, spear, rock, Suzu, and more. You can counterplay and stop his hook, it comes down to the player. You can also one shot armored characters like Vendetta and Brigitte, just not Bastion. Mauga and Ana are his main counters, but he also has others like D.Va, hitscan heroes, Zenyatta, Lifeweaver, Bastion, Reaper, and more. They removed the one shot because the community complained a lot, even though it comes down to bad positioning, which is what Roadhog punishes. Nerfing his hook damage does not change much, he still has his one shot. Roadhog is not that bad, it is mostly that players have bad positioning
