@blwmealsapp: Hi guys-Emma here (Speech-Language Pathologist who specializes in feeding and swallowing). We always hear from parents that gagging is scary and I totally get that, but I want you to know gagging is actually a protective mechanism and is a natural, normal part of learning to eat-BOTH with purees and finger foods. Gagging is common, choking is not. If your baby is gagging, you do not need to intervene, just give them time to work it out. Choking IS something we need to prevent and you most certainly need to intervene if it’s happening. It helps to know that if you can hear your baby making sounds like talking or loud coughs, know that air is moving through the airway. Choking is typically silent (though sometimes you may hear wheezing sounds). You can help prevent choking by knowing what foods are a higher risk for choking incidents and how to offer safe textures and shapes to your baby based on their developmental stage💚. Inside BLW Meals app we have a guide on gagging versus choking + we show you how to safely offer over 100+ foods to your baby in our (free) food library. Everything inside our app was made and approved by our board certified pediatric feeding team of dietitians, SLPs, behavior analysts and pediatricians so you can confidently feed your baby. It’s always free to download, but you can subscribe to premium content like our recipes and meal plans for 40% right now! Instead of $34.99 for a year of full access to the app, you’ll get it for $20.99 (that’s only $1.75 per month!). Use the link in bio to download it
