Could You Be Waiting for Jesus— and Still Miss His Return? Many Christians are waiting for the Lord Jesus to return. They pray for His coming. They watch the sky. They believe that one day, the Lord will suddenly appear upon a cloud. But here is a serious question: Is it possible to wait for the Lord— and still fail to recognize Him when He comes? This happened once before. The Pharisees knew the Scriptures. They understood the prophecies. They had waited for the Messiah for generations. But when the Lord Jesus appeared, they did not recognize Him. Why? Because the Lord Jesus did not come according to their expectations. They expected a powerful king. But He appeared as an ordinary man. They expected Him to deliver them from Roman rule. But He came to express the truth, redeem mankind, and begin a new age. Because His work did not match their ideas, they rejected Him. They condemned Him. And in the end, they nailed the One they were waiting for to the cross. This should warn every Christian today. The greatest danger is not that we are not waiting for the Lord. The greatest danger is that we may be waiting according to our own ideas, while refusing to seek how the Lord will actually appear and work in the last days. The Lord Jesus said: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” John 10:27 KJV He did not say: “My sheep only look for signs in the sky.” He said: “My sheep hear my voice.” Revelation also says: “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him.” Revelation 3:20 KJV Notice this carefully. The Lord knocks through His voice. Those who hear His voice and open the door welcome Him. But if we only wait for what we expect to see, while refusing to listen for what the Spirit is saying to the churches, could we miss the Lord’s return? The wise virgins did not welcome the bridegroom because they knew the exact time He would come. They welcomed Him because when the cry was made, they went out to meet Him. But the foolish virgins heard the same cry and were left outside the door. So the key question is not only: “Am I waiting for the Lord?” The real question is: “Can I recognize the voice of God?” “If the Lord expresses new words in the last days, will I seek and listen?” “Or will I reject Him because His work does not match my expectations?” Many people say: “I will believe it only when I see the Lord coming on a cloud.” But by the time everyone sees Him openly, will the work of welcoming the Lord already be finished? How does the Lord knock at the door in the last days? What is the voice of God? How can we distinguish the words of the Spirit from the words of man? And how can we become wise virgins who welcome the bridegroom? These are questions that concern our final destination.
