Good HR will tell the employee why he/she is being terminated; will explain final pay, severance and benefits; and will provide an opportunity for the employee to ask questions. HR will do so after making it clear that the decision itself is final and not negotiable.

HR doesn’t fire anyone. That’s a management decision. HR will facilitate and let management know if there’s grounds for termination.

If you get a random meeting invite from your manager, check HR employee calendars to see if they also have a block at the same time. Never get caught flat footed
