I cant believe this person thinks you'll be worse off having paid it off. When you explained your hubby had been made redundant, first thing I thought was how fantastic she already smashed out her mortgage. Unreal how people dont realise how much more your mortgage is thsn the balance you see in the app!

If things got bad you can always get another mortgage - people don’t seem to understand the security that having a mortgage free home brings

Mortgage payment is 310 a month, I live alone so all bills are on me. I earn a low wage but I’m determined to pay at least £500 extra each year off my mortgage.

We are lucky to have never had one, and it’s such a blessing. Yes, we can’t upsize our house easily but we live in a decent size house anyway. Not having a mortgage is the dream for most surely

My normal monthly repayment is £1090. I’m currently paying down £18k loans I’ve used to improve the building (it used to be £80k!). Three years time I will be debt free and overpaying the mortgage. I’m 40 and will be debt and mortgage free by 50 at the latest. Then 7 years of paying a minimum £1k into my pension a month. Retiring at 57 ❤️

Don’t forget the house is an asset. To pay your or your husband’s care bills in the future you will have to get rid of it to pay for your care home. Wealth management is critical if you go down this path. You don’t have to be super rich to prepare for the future.

We are mortgage free - have been for 23 years - my regret is that I haven’t spent the savings, I just squirrelled it away - should’ve retired earlier and now having to learn how to treat myself

How do people pay their mortgages off so early? I’m in my 30’s and we bought our dream home - a rural detached cottage in the countryside so we do have a big mortgage and have started overpaying this year. But realistically the earliest Ill be mortgage free is in my 50’s

Best feeling being mortgage free. We paid ours off 8 yrs ago. We've got so much extra money each month to treat ourselves and still put some away. Best decision for us. A big weight off our shoulders.

from 2019-2024 £604pm 2024-2029 £820 however intrest rates have come down slightly, so what we will do next time is keep our payments at 820 as that's what we're used to paying and shorten the term, well that's the plan. I use Spive to over pay though

Paying off your mortgage early isn’t always about what looks best on paper — sometimes peace of mind matters more than squeezing every last penny out of your money. Being mortgage-free at 50 gave me security, especially when times got uncertain. No worrying about interest rates shooting up, more freedom in your work and life choices, and the chance to spend the next decade putting money into savings and investments instead. A lot of people underestimate just how good it feels to remove the biggest monthly bill from your life. That sense of stability and peace of mind, especially as you get closer to retirement, is worth a lot more than numbers on a spreadsheet sometimes.
