@regular._.human: There won’t always be a check engine light or stored codes, but you will get the EPC light and reduced power mode. This is a super common issue on VWs. The control module built into the cooling fan assembly starts shorting internally, and once it goes bad, things can get ugly fast. One of the first signs is the fan module keeps squealing or running even after the car is turned off, and next thing you know… dead battery in the morning. A lot of people ignore it because the car still drives “fine,” but that same faulty module can stop the fans from working completely and cook your engine from overheating. On this model, you can’t just replace the module by itself — you have to replace the entire fan assembly. Some other VW models let you swap only the module, but not this one. Typical VW activities 😂 And quick warning for anybody doing this repair: DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST.
