@eileen.lamb: Find this shocking? This is our life. Don’t have anything nice to say? Don’t comment. This is what childhood can look like for siblings of a child with profound autism. For Billie. For Jude. And before anyone says it: no, it’s not Charlie’s fault. We love Charlie more than words. He is not bad. He is not choosing this. But that doesn’t make it less traumatic for his siblings. It doesn’t make it less terrifying in the moment. It doesn’t make it easier to be the parent trying to keep everyone safe at once. This is why I advocate the way I do. Because families like mine need more than awareness that feels comfortable to share. We need help. We need respite. We need services. We need people to understand that profound autism affects the entire family. Even the siblings sitting quietly in the backseat.
That poor little girl and your older son looks exhausted. You are putting too much onto them, my heart breaks for them

At what point do you make the decision to save your other children? Where is the line drawn at? This has got to be the hardest thing to go through. I’m so sorry.

I was that sister once and I’m so happy these people on the comments are calling this out! I know it is extremely hard on the parents but sadly this is a breaking point.

Glass child syndrome… I had to change sooo much of our life because of it.. even though I thought we were doing so well by my youngest because he also has profound autism. Never even thought twice how it would affect my oldest. Autism is not for the weak, you’re doing great momma.

I give words of comfort to you!! I am a sibling to a brother with profound autism. He is 22 now! What helped most was getting a bigger vehicle. My parents were able to separate us. (He was a hitter and thrower). He’d be in the middle row and we’d be in the back or vice versa. It will get better Mama. Don’t strive for perfection, only improvement!

Appreciate its budget dependent but would a bigger car be possible, one with three rows? Just to avoid this situation where possible? 🥺 My heart hurts for all of you in different ways. You can see the exhaustion on everyone.

The boy in the front at first looking at you constantly waiting for you to be on their side. As a teacher of children with ASD, you have got to draw a line to create safety for ALL of your children. Pull the car over and help him regulate, create a system for your car journeys that means all of your children and you are safe. Him throwing things could easily cause you to have an accident. Ignoring him won’t make it go away and I’m sure you’re exhausted but there needs to be safety for everyone
