You cant "debunk" someones opinion brother, if someone only cares about their survival more than survival of others they will press red button. its consistent within their own belief system whether you like it or no

I mean if you choose red you can very well accept that blue is the desired outcome but still conclude then when actually tested people will not choose blue and therefore in order to survive you have to choose red. And generally it’s a good thing if you flourish rather than not all else equal. So maybe there is that arguement for choosing red

let's help the red pushers ill ask the question differently... help thanos to save your skin and condemn up to 50% of the pop or help the avengers defeat thanos but they only win if over 60% of the pop help to save EVERYONE.

Finally someone who isn't a red button presser. Morality is one of the foundations of Human civilization because it is what gave humanity stability which is why we must choose the blue button as it is an act with accordance to our Innate Morality, It is rational to do the Common Good.

Yeah, overall this is a mid tier argument. You repeatedly miss the point of the red button rational while going on tangents on our altruistic nature. The issue is that nothing can possibly be gained by working together. The only reason we tend towards collectives is because they are usually our best chance at survival, not because collectives are inherently good. This question is literally the best demonstrative of that; you either choose to risk everything on the hopes other people will also do so (while having no possibility of gaining anything) or you dont do that and risk nothing at all. It’s the simplest form of game theory ever. The percent of the world which is religious or selfless or whatever doesnt matter because, again, you gain nothing while risking everything on the hopes that other people will do the same.

Theres nothing to debunk here, try debunking moral subjectivism instead. There are no moral obligation to save anyone. You're also strawmanning

The choice isn't a simple scientific calculation because it depends on a complex subjective framework where the individual first constructs different mental scenarios and then identifies a vast range of variables like food security and safety within those scenarios after which they must perform a qualitative and quantitative assessment of how those variables fluctuate and interact before finally placing a personal value judgment on the outcome so since the perceived utility of "quality of life" versus "guaranteed survival" varies from one person to another you cannot logically convince every rational selfish actor that the blue button is the superior choice because their assessment of the risks and rewards is based on their own unique weighing of those specific variables.

Highly doubt 50% of people are gonna choose the death gamble button. If 70% choose red, 30% choose blue, then regardless if me or you choose blue the outcome is the same, red wins. You can’t convince everyone that blue is the best option when their life is on the line 🤷

depending on who you are, it may be rational to choose red. For example, if you are a nuclear plant maintainer and your death would leave the remaining survivors at risk, pressing blue is not automatically selfless. If blue loses, you die, and the people who pressed red may survive but still be in danger because the person needed to stabilise the plant is gone. In that case, red can be justified because it keeps you alive to protect the remaining survivors.

So the original prompt is from medium.com and neither button involves death lol. Red is autonomy and blue is just taking away others choice based on the fear of a possible death that isn’t mentioned, as the word survive is mentioned but that is the point, it’s a fear based question to see if they would take away others free will. Also, it’s a reverse political color pavlov to see how easy people are manipulated…

Oh, venerable one, finally someone intelligent is speaking on this regarding what choosing red really means. Choosing red is people going against the very strategy that has made us so successful. Obviously those who push red aren’t ill willed necessarily simply driven to prioritize their own preservation over others (though they do not think of the long term effects) of course those who press red can be actors who carry ill will.
