I used to think buying green light/guaranteed cars was the safer move too… until I learned arbitration can be a headache and a lot comes down to knowing the policies and loopholes. Not to mention paying top dollar. Example — at Manheim, you generally can’t arbitrate A/C on a 10+ year old vehicle, even if it’s green light. In Arizona? No A/C is a big deal 😂. Personally, I’ve shifted toward red light units. I’d rather buy cheaper with known issues and add value myself than overpay expecting perfection. After enough auction lessons, my strategy changed.

Openlane is actually pretty good for me. Ive had several go through arbitration. Probably 75% success. They pay for used parts. So, you need to be resourceful. But you already need to be resourceful to be in thos business.

Arbitration claims in my experience mainly depend on the verbiage in the arbitration filing. I now use ChatGPT to generally encompass all issues. They still definitely don’t give a damn overall.

what did open lane do for you? also ive been waiting 2 weeks for one to be delivered and my rep lied to me that it was getting dropped off yesterday even though it still says dispatching. this is my last open lane vehicle. I will be no longer using them.

Yes! Believe it or not the auction does not own any of these vehicles they host the event. It is the dealers job to do their due diligence. Always look at who you buy from as well. Lease/repo lanes are much safer because the auction can easily negotiate with the bank/credit union, or lease reps to help you get out of the deal. Small dealers are extremely stubborn and believe the auction should take the loss on the garbage vehicles they are selling at the auction and announced green light on. Just know the auction is not screwing you most of the time it’s the other dealer selling to you hoping you didn’t do any research on the vehicle and will not negotiate a fair price for the vehicle with an issue that they know has an issue.The big dealership vehicles are there because they have major issues as well. Only pay good money on Credit Union vehicles with under 90,000 miles that are green light. Other than that give yourself room for engine or transmission

I just returned two trucks to Manheim just this week. You have to know how to arbitrate and use their policies against them. It can be done. Sometimes you get stuck, but 90% of my arbs go back.

They are doing whatever it takes to get out of ARBs . Before Covid, it was usually no questions asked. They would take it back. Now I believe that there are so many dealers now. And they have tried to take advantage of the system
