Can’t wait to do this for others. I feel like talking should be more common during body work

I think its situational. I dont think it should be normalized to trauma dump. not only are LMT not psychiatric therapist but a client never knows where a massage therapist is at mentally. trauma dumping could trigger someone's ptsd. and most LMT dont give specific consent or permission for that. I use to work in dental and oddly enough, people would trauma dump the most horrific stories on me. or tell me their whole family drama. there were times I had to excuse myself and bawl my heart out. not only because of pstd I have from similar situations but sometimes its just too heavy... always ask if people have space for something or if its okay for you to dump. - this client here is obviously not seeking free therapy from you and just chatting. I just wanted to say my bit.
the flip side, I dont want a chatty LMT unless I initiate. im there to relax. I talk off and on with my current one. but its a flow. we chat. we go silent. we chat, repeat. and its usually massage related because I went back to school for massage therapy and shes been a great mentor. ive also known her for years. I know her husband and her dogs lol. ive had LMTs that wont shut up about their lives or go on and on about my line of work. thats not relaxing or healing. im sorry if that sounds mean. just feel out the client and know the session isnt a out you unless they specifically ask and not in a prompted way.
