@mytvcebu: WATCH: 66-year-old Ireneo Selma Vidal has finally reunited with his grandchildren after spending time in prison following his apprehension along Colon Street last May 7. Vidal claimed he went out that day to earn money for his hungry grandchildren through performing with his harmonica. However, CCAMO maintained that he was caught asking for alms in violation of the city’s Anti-Mendicancy Ordinance. Authorities revealed it was already the fifth time Vidal had been rescued for the same violation, while the Department of Social Welfare Services confirmed he had previously been referred to their office in March and April. Meanwhile the Commission on Human Rights Central Visayas is now calling for a more careful and compassionate approach in handling similar cases, as city agencies and CHR prepare for a dialogue on the implementation of the ordinance.
