Super secret pro tip: Install the "open with" extension, set it up to open woth yt-dlp, with any command for what format you want and the download location. Now you can right click download anything in your browser instead of using the command prompt

for best quality, instead of mp3 I type -f 140. I also like to follow it up with --embed-thumbnail bc I like having the thumbnail for my music files, and finish with -o "$(title)s.%(ext)s" so its named properly, before pasting the YouTube link

Extra tip: It works on livestreams too! You can put a twitch, yt, tiktok link in there and it will start recording the livestream. Press CTRL-C to stop the recording

have you heard of Nuclear? I've had a go with it, it's basically an audio player frontend similar to Spotify or iTunes and in NO WAY does it let you download the audio in a similar manner 👀 it just runs locally on your machine in the same way as this example but it's got a graphical interface and some explore functions so it's a bit less friction for most people's use cases
