For Super Typhoon Category 5 Dolphin🐬(Still an Dangerous System!!): Dolphin (Japanese Typhoon Number 13) is located 594 km west of Wake Island, and has tracked west-northwestward at 17 km/h (9 knots) over the past 6 hours. Maximum significant wave height is 15.2 meters (50 feet). Dolphin continues to track northwestward along the southwestern edge of a subtropical ridge complex which extends along a northwest-southeast axis from south of the aleutians to west of Hawaii. Far to the northwest, a deep upper-level trough continues to move east of Honshu, with a jet max approaching the trough axis. In 24 hours, the jet max will round the trough axis, with the trough reaching its maximum equatorward extent and generating a weakness in the subtropical ridge along 30N latitude. The orientation of the subtropical ridge relative to the trough axis will induce a slight acceleration in the track speed of Dolphin as it continues northwestward. As the jet max moves to the eastern side of the trough, the trough will fill and recede poleward, enabling ridging to build in its wake, along 35N latitude.
