@missclairebenjamin: Handling returning for maternity leave and being questioned on your commitment… Returning from maternity leave can be a challenging time for many women for so many reasons. Finding the new balance between motherhood and work. Trying to reintegrate into the team when it feels like things have moved on since you’ve been away. Competition and role blurring with the person who covered your role whilst you were off. All of this is of course is amplified if your manager isn’t supportive and seems to be unfairly questioning your commitment. The important thing is to try and maintain a sense of control in the situation by influencing the conversations with your manager like how I demonstrate in this video. 💬 Have you ever been in a position like this, or supported someone who has? I think she actually could have refocused the conversation about how she will approach her work in a flexible way. I.e. there will be times as a primary caregiver that I need to pick my son up when he’s ill. But it doesn’t change my ability to deliver on what’s required. I hope you can support me in a flexible approach to my work so that I can deliver what’s needed and also support my family in the times I need to

There should be a law where they allow new mums to train and subcontract someone to help them out with their job paying the person from their salary + government help with providing national insurance.

It’s so so hard being a mum in the work force. And you definitely can’t promise nursery bugs will become less. We as a family were ill from September to February as we kept getting ill from nursery bugs. Managers need to have more understanding. I used to have so much anxiety if my son was ill and I was going to have to take a day off, I don’t have a village it’s just me and my husband he can’t just go to grandparents house if he’s sick. It’s so hard. I ended up leaving my job because my manager wasn’t understanding and she had come back from mat leave after me… I think she had more family around to support if her little one was ill and her nursery didn’t have a no attendance for 48 hours after calpol admitted or a high temperature.
