The first time around I was 16 and no one was celebrating. I have a couple pictures I took of myself on a digital camera that luckily, I still have access to. (I’ve lost most of those teenage digital camera pictures) The second time I was 22 & working 12 hour shifts in the ER. I took a few mirror selfies, but I was so hard on myself and deeply rooted in perfectionism during those days. I also had this angry attitude towards people who were celebrating my second baby when they didn’t treat me that way with the first. I know now, most of that was turmoil happening in my head because I took the opinions of other people way, way, way too seriously. But I didn’t want to celebrate baby number 2 more than we did baby number 1, because that felt unfair to the life of my first to me. So very few photos were taken. — this was all in my head. This time, I’m 34, soon to be 35, which is considered a “geriatric” pregnancy. I’ve learned so much over the last 17 years of mothering and I’ve chilled out A LOT. I’m deeply rooted in embracing imperfection and enjoying the moment. And I’m trying to capture every second I can of this pregnancy. So today, I set my phone up on a tripod and filmed myself walking around. I took screenshots and edited them. I’ll probably print one out and hang it on a wall. I want to remember this time. I want proof that it happened. And I want to celebrate this baby.
