Are we forgetting the Edmonton Oilers, they may have already been a team in the WHA, but those 4 teams... Oilers, Whalers, Nordiques and the original Jets were all essentially expansion teams in 1979... Edmonton would go on to win 5 Stanley Cups in the next 10 years, 4 of them in 5 years.

Yeah, because the NHL really screwed up when they came into the league. They got such a favorable draft, it was insane. No other team has gotten the same treatment, and teams were much more savvy when the kraken picked

Don't forget Vegas got teams to trade them picks to not take certain players in the expansion draft which then they used to trade for other players or they draft someone just to trade for more picks

You should probably explain that this was the first year the rules were changed for an expansion. Other teams had to wait 3-10 years to get good or if you’re Columbus, never been good.
