@dr.matthew.parker: One thing I didn’t fully appreciate before becoming a psychiatrist is how much of this field exists in shades of gray. In other areas of medicine, there’s often a lab value, imaging finding, or test result that helps guide you toward certainty. Psychiatry can be very different. A lot of what we do involves listening carefully, understanding patterns over time, and making the best clinical decisions we can with incomplete information. I think one of the hardest transitions for me personally was learning that being a good psychiatrist doesn’t mean always having immediate answers — it means being thoughtful, collaborative, and willing to tolerate uncertainty while continuing to help patients move forward #MentalHealth #psychiatry #anxiety #depression #residency
