never heard it called the martin knot, but have been doing this for years. Saw a video of Kirk Hammett's guitar tech donng it to fix tuning stability issues on his les pauls, tried it on one of mine and have been doing it ever since.

There is absolutely no need for this. if you have good tuning machines, bridge, trimolo or whatever style your guitar is and you do 2 wraps on the wrapped strings and 3 to 4 on the solid strings you will be fine...

Have done this with all my traditional guitars (acoustic and electric) for nearly 40 years. I can confirm: no tuning issues whatsoever. 👍🏼
