@whileyouwonder: A lot of people think an autism diagnosis will instantly erase the self-doubt. Sometimes it doesn’t. Some people still question themselves after diagnosis. Some question themselves before diagnosis. Some never access formal assessment at all because of cost, waitlists, geography, discrimination, culture, safety, parenting responsibilities, or previous harmful healthcare experiences. Whether you pursue formal assessment or not is completely personal. There’s no “right” path here. But if formal assessment isn’t accessible to you right now, please know this: Struggling to fully trust your own autistic experience does not automatically mean you’re wrong about yourself. Imposter syndrome is incredibly common in late-identified autistic people, including those with formal diagnoses. Leedham, A., Thompson, A. R., Smith, R., & Freeth, M. (2020). “I was exhausted trying to figure it out”: The experiences of females receiving an autism diagnosis in middle to late adulthood. it's so expensive but I feel like no one will take me seriously without an official diagnosis

I really think I'm autistic but my family isn't very educated on autism outside of those who are basically non verbal so I have no idea how to ask for a test. I'm a minor. what do I do?

Heck yes this is really comforting to hear! I’ve done hefty research over the years since I was a teen, now in my 20s I bought myself the sunflower lanyard for invisible disabilities and it gives a lot of security/comfort when I’m out & about 🥹

I did get imposter syndrome even 5/6 years, after my diagnosis. Then I remembered my social phobia and all the other stuff lol. I think it happens when everything is going well in yr life, no stress etc..

If I were to be a mid 40s female and have an AuADHD official diagnosis, other than understanding why so many things have been difficult in my head/life, what, technically, does it do for me? How will this help me this late in life? Thank you!!

I'm self diagnosed AuDHD and my life finally makes sense, but I'd like a formal diagnosis. If I don't get one, because I'm high-masking, the people that I know won't believe me.

I was diagnosed last week at 41 and I’m definitely questioning the validity of the diagnosis. It’s helpful this is common.

I heard someone on TikTok explain why so many of us get imposter syndrome, is because we have been masking our entire lifes. So our image of ourselves is to be someone we are not. After understanding we’re autistic, we become true to ourselves but that known feeling of always masking, remains.

Haven’t gotten an assessment and have a strong strong feeling that I have it. I didn’t know that feeling like I’m making it up an just tricking myself to believe that I was, I didn’t know that was a thing

If it's workplace related, is getting a formal autism assessment necessary or can I self-diagnose? I know 100% I'm AuDHD (formal diagnosis for ADHD already).
