Cryptic pregnancy can happen to anyone. It happened to me and I have not financially recovered.

Cashed out a 401K when I left a job in my early 30s. Had I just rolled it over I would be so much closer to retirement.

Student loans. Just don’t. I went to college to get a good job. So I took out loans. Now I have a job to pay back said loans, with interest. 😑🙃

Maybe the opposite of your question… when I started my first big person job, I took my grandpa’s advice and put a large percentage of my paycheck into the Roth and 401k. He said you’ll never miss it because you never knew you had it. Best financial advice ever. I’m now 34 years old and on track to have at least $1 mil at 50 years old.

Whatever you’re avoiding (understanding taxes and/or not filing or paying, maxxed credit cards, investing, retirement savings, etc) will continue to wreak havoc until you address it. It’s the fear of the unknown. Avoidance is so expensive.

Go to a community college or a 4 year school and commute. It’s not worth the loans. Work part time, or go to a trade school. Go visit your friends on the weekends, who live at their schools and party there (for free).

Do not quit your job to follow your dreams unless you have 12 months of cash flow available. I don’t care what anybody says. Don’t do it. Passion alone does not pay the bills.
