I wash them because when I cut it, the knife that touched the outside goes through and touches the part we eat 🤷🏻♀️Makes sense to me! I also wash oranges, lemons, limes, apples, grapes, and ummmmm everything!

You clean the outside of a melon before cutting it because the knife can drag bacteria, dirt, pesticides, or mold from the rind into the flesh as you slice through it. 🙄
