The FDA is now allowing Philip Morris-owned Zyn to market certain nicotine pouches as a lower-risk alternative for adult smokers who switch completely from cigarettes. The agency says making that switch can reduce the risk of smoking-related diseases. That doesn't mean Zyn is risk-free, the pouches contain nicotine but no tobacco. The FDA is emphasizing that young people shouldn't use nicotine products, and adults who don't already use them shouldn't start. Even so, the decision is a big win for Philip Morris, giving the company a powerful new way to market one of the fastest-growing nicotine products in the U.S.
