A dog missing for almost two weeks was rescued while frantically paddling half-a-mile from shore while trying to evade an “aerial assault by an organised gang of seagulls”. The dog, later identified as Prieta, was spotted swimming in San Francisco Bay having last been seen on Fourth of July. East Palo Alto Police Department received reports from a witness who spotted the distressed-looking dog and quickly coordinated a rescue effort with Menlo Park Fire Protection District, Redwood City Fire Department and the Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA last Thursday. After “spotting the dog with binoculars”, firefighters pinpointed its location with a drone then went out on the Bay in a boat to save its life in what was deemed a “challenging water rescue”. The pup is believed to have been paddling for about 40 minutes when it was saved. Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA said Prieta arrived at its facility “exhausted, scared and with facial injuries from the ordeal”. After checking the dog’s microchip, it was reunited with its owner about an hour after it arrived at the shelter, and after its wounds were treated. The humane society said that Prieta’s owners had been “searching for her since she went missing nearly two weeks ago”. #5news #dogrescue
