I recognise lot of these from either mine or other cultures. These are good ones! Nothing stops you from searching customs of different cultures and making them fit your story

i love the one in Greek mythology/pjo where loved ones bury their dead with a golden drachma to pay to skip the line in the underworld and be taken straight to their judgement

The first one is actually from an Orthodox Jewish funeral custom. It’s one of my favorites.

I have a pretty similar lore for a world in mine. And some of these can really be implemented there too, so, thank you!

I love these. I want to use the marks, thinking scars along the arms for mates. But some of these i feel have been from real customs. The mirror one, yes, in Victorian times I think

There is a tradition in my ocs world where if a friend dies they take there weapon and wrap it in cloth. (commonly the banner they fought under) which then they walk in silence to give the sword to there family or somone important. another part is when you see someone doing this you step to the side of the road and lower your head in silence untill they pass.

In my ocs culture after the mourning period, which usually lasts a month, a party is hosted by the deceased one’s family members (or lover if they’re married) to celebrate that the person is no longer burdened by the misfortunes of life

the first one is actually a true fact. my mama and papa believe someone should always be sitting beside the deceased, so they can also mourn and say there last goodbyes. another thing we also do is there will always be a fire lit and fire keepers to protect it.

In my culture, some of these are real rules. During the mourning period (40 days exactly), the closest family are not allowed to drink alcohol, listen to music, dance and in general have any major celebrations. Even visiting someone's wedding or birthday is seen as shameful. Also, the funeral home (the place where the deceased lived or parents' house) has to be "guarded" day and night until the burial. As well as returning the body to their homeland, specifically their hometown. Children are also often not allowed at funerals or at the funeral home as we try to protect them from those painful experiences so early in their life.

I made a bird humanoid species, descendants of the astral griffins the mother's weave their newborns their burial shrouds in case of infant death. once the child is old enough, they unweave their shrouds and remake it by their own hands the dead must be gathered before dusk and wrapped in their cloths. the mourning will kuln from dusk to dawn as a way to guide the spirits back to nature

Death rites for one of my races: Karaveke death rites: close their eyes, find their weapon(s), and cross them over their chest with the blade(s) pointing north. Most will also draw a line of blood (either the dead persons or, often, their own) across their forehead with their little finger to prevent the *Karavekida* from taking their soul. The Wild Ones will take souls, draining them of their *ria* to give them more power. These souls cease to exist, and it’s one of the only true deaths in the world. But it’s a horrific end, which is why the Karaveke try to protect their kills. The *Karavekida* are only attracted to the souls of the Karaveke or those killed by Karaveke. (The Karavekida are also known as Wild Ones, kind of like a fae but much less whimsical and more connected to nature, be that a tectonic fault line or an oasis, or something else entirely)
