Over the weekend our beautiful sisters and daughters have been watching a certain series on Netflix. The Polygamist. And the reactions from women online? Absolute chaos. "Men." "Loyalty." "You give them everything and still." The angry quotes are everywhere. WhatsApp statuses. Comment sections. Whole timelines on fire. Over a drama. Let me remind everyone of something simple. It is a series. Fiction. Entertainment. The funny part is the story came from a book written by a woman years back, around 2012. It sat there quietly until Netflix turned it into a series. Now suddenly the whole boy child is on trial for something a scriptwriter imagined. If you want to start a war, walk into a group of bitter people, say one word, "men," and then just sit back and watch. Everything else writes itself. The anger is already loaded. It just needs a trigger. A drama became that trigger. And men who have done nothing, who were just existing peacefully over the weekend, suddenly find themselves being attacked online for the behaviour of a fictional character in a Netflix series. Let me say this plainly. Do not let fiction shape how you see real people. A drama is designed to stir emotions. That is its job. The writer exaggerates. The director dramatizes. The actors perform. It is built to make you feel something intense. That is entertainment. But when you start projecting a fictional storyline onto your real partner, your real relationships, and an entire gender, you have lost the plot. Enjoy the series. Feel the emotions. Then close the app and return to reality. Real people are not characters in a script. Do not punish them for a story someone wrote. It is just a series. Take it lightly. — Elvis W.
