MILITIA STORY WAS FABRICATED– MULENGA FUBE By Alfred Chimba Former Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube has dismissed the alleged militia story linking incarcerated opposition leaders Brian Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and others, describing it as malicious, framed and made up. Speaking in an interview, Fube said the claims of militia training in Kabulonga and elsewhere are illogical and lack credibility, challenging authorities to produce evidence of weapons allegedly recovered. He questioned the manner in which government has handled the matter, accusing it of placing claims on innocent people and failing to provide proof.
"Up to today, have you seen the weapons that were said to have been recovered from there? Government has not shown anything. When I say government, I mean they are putting a claim on innocent people," he said. Fube further cast doubt on official statements surrounding an alleged exchange of fire at the said premises, noting contradictions in police and military accounts. He also questioned the statement by Mark Simuuwe on the militia issue, saying it was selective and inconsistent with facts on the ground. Fube argued that the current approach shows selective application of the law and a blind eye to who has actually committed offences. The former lawmaker said the targeting of opposition figures and clergy is worrying and reflects misplaced priorities, warning that Zambians are watching. He said the incarceration of Mundubile, Makebi Zulu and others on what he termed as trumped-up militia charges is an attempt to silence the opposition and instill fear among citizens.
