@thesistraining: Sherpas have lived at around 14,700 feet of altitude for a minimum of 6,000 years. This has forced their DNA to mutate and adapt to their low oxygen environment. While regular people’s bodies produce more red blood cells to transport oxygen where it’s needed, Sherpas are even more well adapted. Their mitochondria can produce more energy from less oxygen. Athletes have used high altitude training and hypoxia chambers to re-create this effect for years now.
