@jbrix_art: Sometimes what sounds like “faith” is actually just spiritual bypassing. When discomfort gets labeled as conviction, it becomes easy to stop questioning. But that shift has consequences. #exvangelical #expastor #deconstruction #transgender

My boyfriend was a pastor for 10 years- your take on things reminds me of his. Like the way you think in a way. Just another reason I like you!

"the purpose of prayer is not influence the creator, but to change the one praying." that's a quote by Kierkegaard, might have paraphrased a bit. but when I pray I always ask how I can change and what I can do to better accept the unknown and the difficulties in life.

I see this a lot in the area of death and grief work as well… rather than personally experiencing our own emotions, the get bypassed and it end up causing harm as the emotion is still real, lives in our bodies and never gets to be appropriately expressed. Thanks Jaye… accountability and responsibility are so important. And we don’t like this, not just in spaces of religion but a part of the broader North American culture. It might not always show up in religious language but can show up in secular phrases. For example, pregnancy loss often gets met with phrases like “you can always have another child or adopt” or in older losses like “at least their not in pain anymore” we are so avoidant of discomfort!

Have you ever thought, you’re very educated & intelligent. The book interpretation takes a complexity that most people would find tedious. Not to be basic but why don’t they simply teach, act Christ like… live with love & compassion. When did religion become judgmental? It’s sad

I’ve been convicted … about decisions I was making. No way would God “convict” me of hate towards someone else. So many need to learn to mind their own crap and love everyone else.

Christian institutions have not been willing to recognize the crucial importance of figures like you. Even though Jesus openly lived a life that was, in many ways queer, and undoubtedly not heteronormative, nearly all Christian lineages have developed deep adversity, stigma, and, in many cases, outright persecution toward LGBTQIA+ individuals and communities. This is especially paradoxical given the reality that a great number of ecclesiastical Christian figures are themselves repressed or closeted LGBTQIA+ individuals, shaped by systems that demand suppression rather than authenticity. Rather than embracing the radical inclusivity and compassion embodied by Christ, many institutions have instead perpetuated hostility, exclusion, shame, and fear toward those who do not conform to traditional heteronormativ norms. I deeply admire your courage, and I hope your voice can help inspire meaningful change within Christian communities.

Lots of selective picking in our churches. I’ve talked with a couple pastors who say things like “We love our LGBTQ church members but we don’t allow them to hold office in church.”
