I don’t know of any cases where the verdict is overturned and the person got a harsher sentence the second time around. I’ll have to search for some!

Unconstitutional under Bullington v. Missouri (1981) and Arizona v. Rumsey (1984). If a person faced a death-eligible jury and is sentenced to Life without parole, as here, and then later retried due to error in the first trial, that person is considered "acquitted of death" and the maximum punishment allowed under the constitution is life without parole.
