@ellieridgerealtor: Line wire stucco is stucco applied directly to a weather resistant barrier without the benefit of sheathing, just held in place with horizontal wires with let-in bracing to brace the house. This can mean houses are more vulnerable to shaking, and remodeling is a good time to install some sheathing (boards or plywood running between studs). We see this most in homes built 1950-1960, when the American suburb was booming and homes were built quickly and cheaply! Thank you for coming to my ted talk 🙂‍↕️

I was sitting on my couch in the Haight in '89. Just sat down to watch the World Series. The shaking was unbelievable. As the couch slid from side to side, it looked like the long walls (which ran east-west) were bending 20 degrees or more. May have been less, but it was a lot. Super vivid memory. I can't imagine how any of those stucco walls survived.

California carving :

In the early 90s they started blasting holes through the paper because they started using a stucco pump. The houses all leaked during that time period so they started sheeting the entire house with osb.
